Dr. James Densley is a professor and the department chair of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Metro State University, and he is the co-founder of the Violence Prevention Project Research Center at Hamline University, a grant-funded nonpartisan center focused on reducing violence through accessible and actionable data and research. Dr. Densley’s research, which focuses on gangs, violent crime, social media, and policing, has been featured by global media outlets and published in 70+ scientific journals, 20+ edited volumes, and 100+ popular outlets, including the New York Times, Time magazine, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post. He has coauthored nine books and edited two others, including The Violence Project: How to Stop a Mass Shooting Epidemic. Dr. Densley holds a doctorate in sociology from the University of Oxford.
