Mr. Sun is a program manager at CNA’s Institute for Public Research, and he has more than 20 years of experience in the public sector supporting evidence-based practices in criminal justice and education. He focuses on translating research and data into actionable training and policies to help practitioners make informed decisions. While at CNA, he served as the director of the Smart Policing Initiative, a Bureau of Justice Assistance program designed to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based policing innovations. Before joining CNA’s Center for Justice Research and Innovation, Mr. Sun served as the deputy director of the Regional Educational Laboratory – Appalachia. In this role, he oversaw the research and technical assistance agendas for Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia on topics such as school discipline and reform. Mr. Sun holds a master’s degree in public policy and administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a bachelor’s dual degree in public policy and psychology from the College of William and Mary.
