Anticipated project length is one year to begin in August 2000.
A review of all domestic violence related deaths in Colorado Springs will be conducted for the years 1988 to 1997. These will include homicides, suicides, accidental deaths, and deaths that occurred as a result of self-defense. Information that will be gathered on these deaths include: demographic information on the victim and suspect (i.e. age, race, gender, marital status, education, economic level, etc.), alcohol or drug use of a weapon, previous criminal history, mental health, presence of children, as well as other relevant data. In addition, a comparison will be conducted on domestic violence-related deaths and non-domestic deaths. A pattern or history of abuse will be determined.
